What is SIP?
While H.323 remains the established industry protocol for delivering core video functionality, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is gaining in popularity and enables video systems to leverage existing and next generation technologies. SIP is the foundation for integrating with both enterprise and service provider VoIP systems, it supports new features such as mobility and presence, and gives users access to familiar tools such as call forwarding, transferring and holding. It is the defacto standard for unified communications, allowing companies to realize out-of-the box integration and interoperability among various collaborative communications applications. As video moves toward the desktop, leveraging these technologies and delivering an increased level of personalization is critical to support user demands.

The TANDBERG Video Communication Server bridges the gap between SIP and H.323 and delivers three unique applications in one centralized device. It is capable of three distinct branded functionalities:
- FindMe™: A unique industry solution that gives individual video users the ability to log on to a Web-based interface and control where and how they are contacted. Reach the person, not the device.
- Control: Internal video network control and administration for all H.323 and SIP endpoints.
- Expressway: Standards-based firewall traversal for all H.323 and SIP endpoints.
The TANDBERG Video Communication Server provides customers with a clear migration path to SIP, investment protection, more personalized video features at the desktop, and an easy step towards unified communication.
